Accept Your Children

This is a powerful quote/piece of parenting advice that I found and wrote down when I was pregnant. I still think of it everyday.

"Accept your children as perfect, as whole, and treat them as though they already are what they can become. Send them messages all the time that they are great... Give them no judgments or negative reinforcement for not pleasing you; Simply love them for what they are, and treat them as though they already are what they can become. This combination allows them to take control of their lives and keeps them feeling positive about themselves in each moment that they are here. It gives them goals to shoot for, but it gives them unconditional love and acceptance of wherever they are in pursuit of any goals they might have for themselves. Believe it or not, they have much more to teach you about living fully in the present than you have to teach them. You may very well have lost your childlike fascination for the miracle that life is, but if you watch them- stop treating them as apprentice people who are on their way to being somebody, and instead enjoy them for where they are- the rest of it will all fall into place naturally."
